MFL/GWTW

Favourite ’old school’ musical? My Fair Lady (though I don’t really know why – all those dysfunctional relationships). Favourite movie? Gone With The Wind (well, it’s in the top ten).

Both inspired my outfit for the mumble mumble box we’ll be in Sunday at the Sevens: specifically My Fair Lady’s Ascot scene in the first act and Scarlett O’Hara’s inventive use of her mother’s curtains

I’ve had this recycled duvet cover in the ‘reuse’ box for quite some time, long before I started my year without clothes. It’s from the double bed — futon rather — we had in our tiny Russell Square flat (the one we left three weeks after a bus was blown up on the street just outside).

skirt

I’ll use the long wrap skirt pattern, which has but two main pieces, and that will allow me sufficient fabric to make it in to something else in the future if I get tired of the skirt. I’ve only ever used the capri pattern from this Easy New Look but brought it to HK with the intention of using some of my Thai silk for a long wrap skirt. I still will once I decide on the navy or the burgandy. Now that I think on it, it will be great to make a cotton test version first before cutting into my lovely silk.

hat

It’s entirely possible that it will rain Sunday, but in case I need to shade my eyes a hat is in order. While I was home week before last I dug out that hat pattern I used for my Mom’s blueberry-picking hat (see the January 7 post for that story). I compared it to the pattern I drafted and was pretty darn close to the original. The ¾ sleeve black knit top that I have on in the picture on my IWOM blog for March 16 is what I plan to wear with the skirt.

Both the hat and the skirt will be quite easy to dye for a new look (no pun intended) — the china blue dress back at the start of my year without clothes started life black and white and that refashion turned out well I think. As some of you know, I have been under the weather since returning from Fife so all that will get done today is the cutting for the 2 above projects. From my notes I estimate three hours tops to assemble the hat AND the skirt once they are cut. If I can’t do that in three days I won’t be in any shape to go to the Sevens anyway….
